On Friday I met my friend, Sebastian, near his work/home. He took me to this place he frequents called the Grove Cafe for lunch. Had a really good lentil soup. The cafe is closing mid-January because the rents on Portabello Rd. where it is located are getting jacked up at the end of the year. Sounds like all the mom and pop places are going to all disappear. After lunch we went to a coffee place up the road (past the Starbucks) next to an American Apparel. He said McDonald's tried to move in next door, but the neighbors protested. (I guess they have their standards.) Apparently, there is a big carnival celebration at the end of August in that area that gets pretty big.
