Lighthouse Hotel & Spa

This hotel is amazing. It's a Geoffrey Bawa creation. One of many awesome buildings he designed in Sri Lanka. If I could have anyone design my house, I think I'd choose him.

The veranda is on a rise above some large rocks that protect it from the Indian Ocean. Galle was hit pretty hard by the tsunami but this hotel wasn't badly damaged because it's up higher and is made of solid concrete. The grounds and pools are beautiful and I think most rooms have balconies facing the ocean. I'll just post some pics when I have a faster internet connection, because my words can't really do the place justice.

It started pouring shortly after we got here. We were checking out the spa at the time and were stranded there until it passed. A very zen experience. The spa is really nice. It has a small pool in the center under an open roof and when it rains the water falls in four arcs from the corners of the tiled roof. There's a plunge pool that is half inside and half outside and overlooks the ocean.

After the rain passed, there was a lightning storm. Ben and I counted 50 lightnings before he had to go to bed. It's probably time for me to turn in. Big day of tennis, eating, swimming, maybe a little gym time, and a whole afternoon of spa time ahead...wish you were here!
